Pieter, an award winning playwright, director and ranconteur
is happy
to share his vast knowledge with you. This is usually accompanied
by an evening of endless storytelling, discussions and the playing
of old vinyl records on the antique grammaphone.
An evening spent with Pieter and Malett is truly an unforgettable
one.
Malett, renowned artist, woodcarver and gourmet cook, ensures
that your personal needs are catered for to the finest detail.

T H E - M A N O R
A cultural experience
As well as providing luxury accommodation in the two spacious
suites, each offering spectacular views across the Schoemanshoek
valley, the house is a treasure trove of Africana culture.
Throughout the house there are original paintings by South
African artists. One of the most interesting features is the
manor house's imposing front door, originally from a 17th
century hunting lodge
of Simon van der Stel - giving visitors an idea of what lies
behind.
None of the original charm of the Era has
been forgotten in building the manor - poplar beam and reed
ceilings, and the stove - an original 1897 Bolinder cast iron
stove. Furnished throughout with genuine antiques it is like
stepping back in time. However, don't be misled - this beautiful
Manor House has almost all
the luxuries of 21 century life as well.

Your own Cottage in the Klein Karoo.
The four private cottages combine the old and the new. Each
one is individually decorated with genuine antique furniture,
19th century stoves, and fireplaces combined with the convienence
of air conditioning for the hot Karoo summers.
Each cottage is equipped with spacious bathrooms.
Some still have original peach-pip floors and are decorated
with
original paintings by South African artists.
Each cottage has it's own private patio
offering unsurpassed views across the valley. The ideal place
to relax with a glass of wine and watch the magnificent sun
sets. Rooderandt offers an extensive range of excellent selected
South African wines. Although the atmosphere at Rooderandt
lends itself to relaxing in good company and interesting conversations,
the cottages offer the ideal "hide-away" conducive
to relaxation and a bit of soul-searching
Great care was taken by the hosts to relive
an past not forgotten. If experiencing true South African
culture and traditions are important to you, then Rooderandt

A Room with a View
This must have been what E.M. Foster had in mind when writing
his famous novel. It is particurlarly fitting that a setting
like Rooderandt should be the
creative space occupied by one of South Africa's most awarded
Playwrights.
In an area known for spectacular scenery and mountain passes,
you are entertained by subtle changing landscapes of uninterrupted
views over the Schoemanshoek valley with the majestic Outeniqua
mountains in the background. From the front of the lodge you
can see farm houses dotted across the valley accentuated by
the small church at Schoemanshoek.
From everywhere around the lodge you are
presented with different aspects
of this splendid scene, a festival of colour throughout the
year as the seasons change. It is even possible to experience
the contrasting scenes of the Valley
to the more harsh realities of the Klein Karoo. No wonder
the area has been described as an archeological wonderworld.
