Western Cape

The Western Cape is South Africa’s premier tourist destination. Known for its natural beauty and outdoor lifestyle, it is a favourite place for locals and foreigners. The province’s capital is Cape Town. The cosmopolitan air, stunning beaches, fabulous restaurants and nightlife, beautiful people and glorious scenery are what make Cape Town the jewel in South Africa’s crown.

Visitors can go up Table Mountain in the cable car, shop up a storm at the V & A Waterfront, visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, strut their stuff along Camps Bay beachfront, visit the African craft market at Green Market Square, see where the two oceans meet at Cape Point or marvel at the FIFA 2010 world cup stadium.

The Western Cape is the home of South African wine, and visitors to the region can explore Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl for some of the finest vino on offer.

The Garden Route, along the east coast of the Western Capeis some of the most beautiful scenery in South Africa, and a drive from Cape Town along the route takes visitors to the towns of Knysna, The Wilderness and Plettenberg Bay. There is the world’s best land based whale watching in the coastal town of Hermanus, and in nearby Gaansbaai shark caging diving is a popular activity.

The wild and ragged West Coast with its long deserted beaches is another popular destination, and offers scenery unlike no other.

Throughout the Western Cape visitors can take part in a range of outdoor activities, including surfing, mountain biking, hiking, sky diving and much more.
